If you venture down to Portobello on a market day, you might spy a stall selling a range of handmade, colourful clothes just under the Westway. Chances are this stall is stocking some of the range produced by the North Kensington Women’s Textile Workshop (NKWTW).
For 30 years, NKWTW has been teaching dress making and textiles skills to local women who are unemployed or on a low income. There are 22 women in the group with learners from around the world, including Ethiopia, Somalia, Nigeria, Egypt, Congo, Grenada, Trinidad and St. Lucia.
And to celebrate 30 years of helping women get creative, learn practical skills and take steps to employment, the Workshop held their first ever fashion show…
Attended by over 100 people, all of the clothes at the fashion show were made by NKWTW learners.
The fashion show was made possible with a little support from the Golborne Councillors through City Living, Local Life/Love Golborne – so Happy Birthday NKWTW and here’s to 30 years more!
