As part of the borough’s Team Kensington and Chelsea initiative, which aims to help local people volunteer across Kensington and Chelsea, the volunteer spotlight is turned on to the Octavia Foundation’s befriending service.

Befriending volunteers offer friendship and emotional support to isolated adults in Kensington and Chelsea and the Octavia Foundation match befrienders who will spend an hour a week with someone, for a minimum of six months.

Befriending can involve many things including having a chat with someone over a cup of tea, going for a walk or supporting someone to try activities such as art, reading, or visiting places such as libraries or galleries. Befriending can take place at someone’s home or in the community.

Becoming a befriender is ideal for those who enjoy meeting new people and supporting others to feel positive about their lives.

All volunteers are provided with training, support, guidance and travel expenses and the role requires two references and a DBS check.

For more information, and to apply, please contact Raksha Gadhvi, Older Person’s Coordinator, at raksha.gadhvi@octavia.org.uk / 0208 354 5532.
