Thanks to Colville Community History’s Tom Vague for bringing this project to Cuppa reader’s attention!

It only takes a few steps from Notting Hill Gate, or a quick hop from Ladbroke Grove Underground for first-time visitors to realise that Portobello Road is a place buzzing with culture, history, diversity and community. People of Portobello (www.peopleofportobello.com) aims to capture this buzz through a photographic library and supporting interviews with the people who make, and have made, Portobello Road and the surrounding area what it is today.

As the People of Portobello team say…

There are few places in the world encapsulating such a harmonious diversity and collection of amazing characters as Portobello, whether it be different personalities, languages, races, cultures, bank account sizes, religions or philosophies on life…

…People of Portobello has two key purposes: firstly, it is intended as a celebration of the wonderful collection of people that make the life in the community so enjoyable; secondly, and perhaps more importantly, it is also a message on the importance of diversity and a real life example of where this can work so well

So do check out the great photographs and local stories at peopleofportobello.com, keep up-to-date on Facebook (facebook.com/peopleofportobello), follow them on Twitter @PoPortobello and Instagram…
