This month our volunteer spotlight focuses in on borough-based Open Age, who have been providing a range of activities and championing active lifestyles for older people for over 20 years.

Providing over 350 weekly activities from hubs including the New Horizons Centre in Chelsea and the Second Half Centre in North Kensington, there are a range of opportunities for you to get involved in and make a difference for others (and yourself too!):

Men’s Group Support

If you have a passion for helping other men and would like to volunteer your skills or time to help the men’s group, please get in touch! This could include helping with publicising the programme, assisting with admin, supporting the delivery of activities or creating and managing the men’s group blog. Open Age are currently seeking enthusiastic and reliable volunteers to assist with administrative, reception and café duties in our friendly and dynamic centre located in the St Charles Centre for Health and Wellbeing.

Friday Lunch Group Support

If you are a patient, friendly, and supportive person with a natural empathy for being with older people, then please do get in touch! Open Age are currently looking for volunteers to support them with the Friday lunch group that runs every other week. You will need good communication skills and have a positive attitude to ageing.  Being organised and efficient will also be important as well as having the ability to use your own initiative

Learning and Community Development

If you are an organised multi-tasker and like to work in a busy yet friendly department, supporting the Head of Learning with enrolments and all things education then this is the opportunity for you!

Open Age run many I.T classes, as well as language classes, relaxation classes and a range of artistic classes. Duties would include designing and assisting with publicising the courses, enrolling learners and completing documents for classes. The role would also involve speaking with learners, assisting with administrative tasks, such as telephoning members, responding to enquiries and supporting the Head of Learning and the tutors in the delivery of education within Open Age.
