Cultivating K&C, a food growing social enterprise that brings together kitchen garden plot holders, community groups, businesses of the borough to provide locally grown produce are on their way to becoming a charity!

To do this they are looking to build up a Board of Trustees and specifically to appoint a Chair, Secretary and Treasurer. If you think this is something you would be interested in, do take a look at the role descriptions below and information on how to apply…

Chairman

Working closely with other trustees, members and project partners, the Chairman will help to develop the organisation, delivering its aims and objectives and contributing to its growth, with specific responsibility for setting the strategic direction as outlined in the business plan. There will also be an opportunity to have an input into the setting up of the general control, management and administrative functions of the organisation.

Working arrangements:

The project is not currently office based and initial working arrangements would be part-time and on a voluntary basis. It is anticipated that in the first year the minimum working requirement would be approximately six hours a month. There will also be a need to attend meetings, some of which may be in the evening.

Skills and qualifications:

  • good leadership skills
  • experience of managing a community group, charity or voluntary organisation
  • a commitment to the aims and objectives of the organisation

Treasurer

Working closely with the other trustees the Treasurer will have specific responsibility for setting up the financial policies and procedures, keeping financial records, preparing the annual report and informing the Chairman of the financial situation.

Skills and qualifications

  • experience or a recognised financial qualification
  • previous experience of working in a financial position
  • experience of working in a community group, charity or voluntary organisation would be an advantage
  • a commitment to the aims and objectives of the organisation

Secretary

Working closely with the other trustees the Secretary will have specific responsibility for ensuring the organisation complies with all statutory requirements and record keeping, information requests, administering the membership scheme, dealing with the administration of meetings including taking minutes and keeping people informed about the organisation’s activities

Skills and qualifications

  • good organisational skills
  • experience of minute taking
  • an understanding of charity legislation is essential
  • a commitment to the aims and objectives of the organisation

A full induction will be provided and reasonable expenses (as agreed) will be paid
