The Health Trainers service is made up of people who have been specifically trained to provide NHS Health Checks and one-to-one Health Trainer support to help local people to make positive, informed choices that improve their overall health and wellbeing.

What does support from the Health Trainers look like?

Health trainers provide free one-to-one support, motivation and advice to borough residents over 18 who want to improve their health and wellbeing. Health Trainers are local people who have been specially trained to support people in their community to make healthier lifestyle choices such as taking up regular physical activity, eating a healthier diet, giving up smoking, drinking less alcohol or wanting to reduce stress levels.

Over six one-to-one sessions, a Health Trainer will work with you to develop a Personal Health Plan which you create to identify those areas of health you want to improve and the actions you can take to achieve your goals. Health Trainers also provide you with relevant information and signpost you to other appropriate local services that can offer additional help and support.

What are NHS Health Checks?

The NHS Health Check is more than just a check-up; it’s a free 30 minute appointment that could help save your life. Everyone is at risk of developing heart disease, stroke, diabetes, kidney disease, and some forms of dementia. The good news is that these conditions can often be prevented – even if you have a history of them in your family. Have your Free NHS Health Check and you will be better prepared for the future and be able to take steps to maintain or improve your health. They are carried out nationally at doctors’ practices, pharmacies and in community settings for those aged between 40 and 74 years.
