The Portobello Film Festival has been running for 20 years and is held an iconic part of London that has become known for its counter-culture. It was developed to provide a forum for new filmmakers and to give exposure to films on a wide variety of topics, especially those that may be regarded as controversial. Directors such as Shane Meadows and Guy Ritchie have debuted films at the Portobello Film Festival. They invite submissions from local and international filmmakers and all the films are shown for free in order to encourage the widest audience possible.
