Volunteers wanted! Pembridge Palliative Care Unit provides support for people with terminal illnesses who require specialist care and are looking for local volunteers who want to get involved and help them make a difference to people.

Broadly speaking, the unit is split into three areas that support people through stages of wellness, illness, treatment and terminal care:

  • an Inpatient Unit/Ward with 13 beds where people are admitted while in treatment, to rest or as part of their recovery process between being in hospital and going home, or in their final days;
  • a Day Hospice where patients living at home can come in to receive medical treatment, therapy, advice and have the chance to socialise; and
  • a Community Team that visits patients at home, and provides support and care for them and their loved ones.

pEMBRIGEThere are a range of services offering physical psychological, spiritual and social support and volunteers are integral to the care offered at the Centre. They bring a breadth of experience, skill and ability to all areas of hospice care and play a vital role in helping patients feeling cared about, comfortable and relaxed.

They also allow for trained staff to focus on, and deliver care to the highest standard possible. A volunteer may be the first person a patient will meet and will influence their experience to being in the Centre and to the care on offer.
