Response is a community based organisation that exists to serve the needs of vulnerable or disadvantaged people in Earl’s Court. Supported by the Royal Borough to provide a community hub, Response offers a range of educational classes designed to improve the lives of these people, affordable health and wellbeing classes and produces a quarterly newsletter – delivered to over 8,000 local homes – that informs local residents what is going on in their community.
The organisation has been supporting its local community for over 35 years, a task made more challenging as the area has an extremely transient population. Being based within the community it serves has allowed Response to identify the challenges facing Earl’s Court’s residents and the strengths and assets of these individuals.
Response will be continuing to run a wide range of activities from its community hub on Old Brompton Road over the next year such as English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) classes, yoga and a homework club. Furthermore it will be introducing new activities such as a creative writing programme (in conjunction with the NHS and local sheltered housing groups) that will benefit older individuals with borderline dementia and a free IT drop-in programme for local older people. These latter sessions will teach participants how to pay bills, shop and keep in touch with friends and family online as well as providing the basic technical knowhow to operate their own devices
If you would be interested in volunteering to help improve people’s lives within this community by assisting Response with its work the organisation is always looking for more volunteers. Roles you could take on include becoming a contributor for its community newspaper or assistants at its homework club. Get in touch by emailing: email@example.com.
