Residents are being warned to be wary of people calling at their doors claiming to be Trading Standards Officers.  Several incidents have occurred in Surrey and London which have resulted in people losing up to £170,000.

The con involves someone calling at your door pretending to be a Trading Standards Officer and saying that the resident is owed money in connection with previous work that the householder had done, or in connection with thermal wall covering.  The householder is then told that they will need to pay for court costs or other admin fees which they will get back at a later date.

Trading Standards Officers do not work in this way.  They do not cold call and certainly do not demand fees if you are the victim of a crime.

If you believe they are fraudsters close the door and call the police on 101 or report the matter to the Trading Standards team on 020 7361 3002, email trading.standards@rbkc.gov.uk
