The Forum is a well-established user-led, community forum that is based in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. The Forum’s mission is to promote the rights of migrants and refugees by developing sustainable community organisations that contribute to an inclusive society. Alongside the Migrant’s Rights Network and UNHCR, The Forum have set up and organised The Women on the Move Awards. These awards celebrates and supports the contribution that migrant and refugee women, the media and their champions can make towards facing down prejudice and inspiring others.
Migrants and refugees cross borders to live among us for many reasons. But when they arrive here they often find that they face new challenges and problems. Some not only rise to these challenges for themselves, they also help others to succeed. These are the women that the Women on the Move Awards look to recognise and champion.
This year, the Women on the Move Awards will be held on Wednesday 4 March, from 7pm as part of the Women of the World (WOW) Festival at the Southbank Centre. Join in at the Queen Elizabeth Hall Front Room to celebrate three extraordinary migrant and refugee women from around the country and to recognise those whose reporting has highlighted the needs of migrants and refugees, or who have championed their causes.
More details about the event and how to apply to tickets can be found here: http://womenonthemoveawards.org.uk/about/2015-awards/.
Finally, the Women on the Move Awards are very excited to be working this year with the Design Museum, whose Women Fashion Power exhibition explores how women have used fashion to define and enhance their position in the world. In an exclusive deal, those who book tickets for the Women on the Move Awards can save 25% off tickets to see Women Fashion Power, which runs until 26 April.
