Join St. John’s Church, Notting Hill and local historian Geoffrey Roome for the next two Thursdays on their journey through history, music, creative writing, horticulture, the arts and more as they map the fall and rise of St. John’s organ.
Each week starts with an organ recital with music selected from the specific date we’re focusing on, followed by an informal talk about the Grade II* listed organ, its history, its amazing system of pipes and mechanisms, and a chance to ask any questions. After the recital, there will be the opportunity to participate in activities inspired by the date of focus.
On Thursday, 5 February, 2.30pm – 4.30pm the focus is on 1960-2000 and the slow decline of the organ from its previous major rebuild
The final workshop, on Thursday, 12 February, 2.30 – 4.30pm the most recent years of the organ will be discussed, including the fantastic 2012-13 full repair and restoration.
Both workshops take place at St. John’s Church, Landsdowne Crescent, W11 2NN
