A message from the Community Safety team…

Residents in the Royal Borough are being advised by the police to watch out for a recent phone scam. Unsuspecting vulnerable and elderly victims ‘cold called’ on their home phone by a suspect impersonating a police officer, informing them their bank account has been compromised, deceiving victims into transferring money to an account under the control of the suspect.

Members of the public are strongly advised that if you receive a call like this to hang up the phone. In order to clear your line from the scammer, wait at least five minutes before making any further calls. Do not hand over any money or items purchased as a result of this type of phone call.

scamsRemember – your bank or the police will never ask for your pin, your bank card or to withdraw money.

Caution – never share your pin with anyone.

Think – never hand your bank card or any goods you have purchased as a result of a phone call to anyone who comes to your front door.

Investigate – If you think you have been a victim of a scam, call police.
