Visitors to Kensington Town Hall can find out about the role of Chelsea residents in the First World War at an exhibition being held in the Council Chamber foyer from Wednesday 15 October until Tuesday 11 November.
The exhibition, which is part of the Chelsea Society’s commemoration of the Great War are a group of carefully chosen selection boards from the original display, and will remain here till Armistice Day 2014 – 100 years on from the end of the war that was meant to end all wars.
The exhibition looks at the beginning of the conflict, which saw young men enthusiastically joining up for the London Irish Rifles as crowds on the street cheered them, through to Peace Day and a victory parade down Sloane Street. There will also be features on the famous ‘Footballer of the Loos’ story, as well as women on the home front.
