It’s Carnival time!
This Bank Holiday weekend Europe’s biggest street festival comes to the Royal Borough, bringing visitors, performers, sounds and tastes from all over the world. Held every year since 1966, the Carnival is spread over 3 days – Saturday August 23 to Monday August 25 – with each day having a different vibe.
On Saturday, there is the National Panorama Competition, a free open-air celebration of Caribbean rhythms and steel bands, on Sunday it is the Family Day Parade and then finally on Monday the main carnival, with its outrageously colourful floats, sound systems and delicious street food.
To help residents and visitors enjoy the Carnival weekend, a number of resources have been made available by the Royal Borough and the Carnival organisers – London Notting Hill Carnival Enterprises Trust.
For up-to-date Carnival information and a flavour of the weekend, please visit the official Notting Hill Carnival website: http://www.thenottinghillcarnival.com/
RBKC have also produced a number of useful documents, including an information booklet for residents, a map of the Carnival area and information on parking and road restrictions that will be in operation.
These, and information about how the Carnival is managed, can be found at: http://www.rbkc.gov.uk/leisureandlibraries/events/nottinghillcarnival.aspx
So, whether you are attending the Carnival or not, here’s hoping the August Bank Holiday weekend is enjoyable for all!
