Bikeminded, the cycling campaign run by the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, has announced its summer programme of themed cycling rides aimed at getting more people on their bikes to discover the secret haunts and history of the borough. The rides will bring the streets to life through adventure and architecture.

Families are invited to join a fun, pleasant ride that will take place around Ladbroke Grove, Notting Hill and Golborne on 14 June, 19 and 20 July. These areas have some of the best history going: a listed tower block, a world famous carnival and markets galore. You can’t find this stuff in the museums; you can only find it by exploring! Two actors will take us on an adventure through the history and vibrancy of the streets, buildings and parks of ‘the North Side’ of the borough.

Bino-bike-small-copy-550x440The North Kensington Family Cycle Ride was produced in association with the Exquisite Folly Theatre and designed for 9 year olds+ and adults. In order to have a positive, safe experience of riding together, the ride will be fully marshalled.

The Architecture Bicycle Tour will take you on a journey through the history of Kensington and Chelsea told by its most fascinating buildings. The tour weaves through the beautiful tree-lined squares of the borough, and through the commercial, residential and recreational heart-lands of RBKC’s history, often less than squeaky-clean. You will leave this tour with a new understanding of the competing architectural narratives of the surrounding area and with some great new cycle routes in hand.

Bikeminded’s architecture bicycle tour was designed by Festival of the Bicycle and will run on 21 June and 20 September. The tour is for adults and will be fully marshalled.
